Sectors We Survey
Fire stopping and compartmentation surveys are carried out by us for organisations responsible for many buildings across the UK, from NHS trusts to managing agents. Every sector has its own practicalities, from 24-hour occupation and sleeping risk to security clearance and term dates. We plan each survey around them and use the same method and report format everywhere.
How do we survey buildings for NHS trusts and healthcare providers?
Hospitals, clinics and mental health units run around the clock, carry a sleeping risk and rely on sound compartmentation for progressive horizontal evacuation. We plan surveys with estates teams around clinical activity, infection control and escorted access.
How do we survey buildings for Care Groups?
Care homes and supported living services carry a sleeping risk, and many residents need help to evacuate. Compartmentation and fire doors are central to keeping residents safe while staff carry out an evacuation.
Care groups often run many homes of different ages and layouts, from converted houses to purpose-built homes. A single survey method across every home makes findings comparable, and a single point of contact keeps the programme simple for operations teams.
We arrange visits with home managers, keep disruption to residents low, work quietly in resident areas, follow infection control procedures, and work around mealtimes and care routines.
How do we survey buildings for Housing Providers?
In most blocks of flats each flat is its own compartment, so fire stopping in shared risers, corridors and roof spaces matters to every resident. We plan surveys around resident access and communication.
How do we survey buildings for Education?
Schools, trusts, colleges and universities often mix buildings of many ages on one site. We plan surveys around term dates and safeguarding, and report every building the same way.
How do we survey buildings for Defence & Public Estates?
Defence sites and public estates are large, varied and often security-controlled. We follow each site's procedures for passes, escorts and photography, and survey whole estates as one programme.
How do we survey buildings for Hotels & Leisure?
Hotels carry a sleeping risk and guests are unfamiliar with the building, so compartmentation and fire doors play a large part in keeping them safe. Leisure buildings such as gyms, pools and venues have their own plant rooms and service routes.
Guest areas need care. We plan surveys around occupancy, survey bedroom corridors and back-of-house areas at quiet times, and keep surveyors out of sight of guests as far as possible.
For groups with sites across the UK, a programme gives one contact, one fixed fee per building and the same report format in every hotel.
How do we survey buildings for Offices & Retail?
Office buildings and retail units are refitted often. Every fit-out brings new data, power and mechanical services through fire-resisting walls and floors, and fire stopping is frequently missed or damaged in the process.
In multi-let buildings, tenant access is the main practical issue. We work with landlords, managing agents and tenants to arrange access to tenant areas, and survey landlord areas, risers and plant rooms around building hours.
Retail units are surveyed outside trading hours where needed, including stockrooms and back-of-house areas.
How do we survey buildings for Managing Agents?
Managing agents look after buildings on behalf of many owners, often across many locations, and are frequently the Responsible Person or act for them.
We give managing agents one point of contact and one survey method for every building they manage, whatever the client or postcode. Reports are clear enough to share with clients, Fire Risk Assessors and contractors.
We arrange tenant and resident access through you, follow each building's procedures, and quote a fixed fee per building, so you can pass costs to clients accurately.
